I scanned through the audience looking around, seeing wide eyes focused on the stage, waiting for us to get out there. I sat there rethinking the moves in my head, wanting to be the best I can be! 'Please give a round of applause for Wainui Beach School!' We quickly moved to our group looking sharp and on track, we were now standing on stage in the showgrounds at the Turanganui Kapa Haka festival on the 20th of November, feeling proud.
Hunter our kaea strolled forward singing, then the audience clapped as we sang stronger as a group.
I thought this was the strongest time ever we have sang, I was stoked. We went there to show of our talent and show what we could do to everyone!
Halfway there we all got our poi out 'Poi kiamo' commanded Matidia, we quickly grabbed our poi and held it in position waiting silently. 'Purea nei' and we were off! I gracefully swayed my poi around giving a big smile to everyone and doing a gentle takahia. I sang at the top of my lungs singing loud and big. My hair waved back a forward as I swang the poi in front of me enjoying the moment.'Purea nei' The crowd went wild, clapping for ages, I stood there feeling proud and happy! Next was the boys haka I quietly sang it helping them out. They shouted so much that the little kids got scared and ran to their mums and dads!
Our end song was He Honore, I noticed that the Wai was singing it softly, we exited of stage singing at our best. The front row was still out there singing their best. They all clapped, I saw that the parents smiling and feeling proud of their kids. I had a great time out, I really enjoyed missing a day of school to come and perform. I would definitely do this again next year!
